- respected and impressive.
Respected and impressive. That’s what August means.
An impressive book puts you on intimate terms with the characters, so much so that you feel what they are feeling. You know their thoughts. You know their souls. To a certain degree, reading is a gift of omniscience. There is a sense of greater perspective because the view is much grander than the narrow reality of one particular character. Even when a story is in first person, you see the bigger picture. You know when something is just a misunderstanding or when something life-changing is about to happen before the characters figure it out. Sometimes you even find yourself sympathizing with the antagonist. It’s almost magical. You may not know quite what to expect, but you are eager to find out. With each turn of the page, you’re drawn deeper into the characters’ lives, awaiting the perfect ending.
Alas, life is not so perfect as that ending may be, which is exactly why the written word is so powerful. It can move you to your core, make you feel things as deeply as if the story were happening to someone you know. You should not take that kind of power for granted. Authors pour their heart and soul into their work. What they do is impressive. They are worthy of respect and admiration; hence the name August Authors.
